Shoeneman was born in Kesley, Iowa, to John and Ann (Folkers) Shoeneman. He graduated from high school in Kesley and received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in Aimes, Iowa. On May 25, 1938, he married Magdalene Klausner in Denver. Mr. Shoeneman worked as a forest ranger for 14 years in the western United States. He moved to Roggen in 1946 and operated his farm and ranch until his retirement in 1970. Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to Lyons. Mr. Shoeneman was a past president of the Colorado Wheat Growers Association, organizer of the Colorado Wheat Commission and a past 15-year board member of the Production Credit Association. He was a member of the Southeast Weld County Soil Conservation District, the Roggen Farmers Elevator Association, the Roggen Telephone Co., the Roggen Co-op and a past president of the Roggen Lions Club. He also was a member of the Rocky Mountain Charolais Association and a charter member of the Brighton Prime-Rib Club. He loved to hunt, fish, play cards, shoot pool and the game of baseball. Mr. Shoeneman died Wednesday in Lyons. Survivors: His daughters, Karen Kerns of Cedaredge, Kris Bell and husband Dave of Littleton, Michelle Miller and husband Joe of Lyons and Renee Crumb of Lakewood; his sons, Jim Shoeneman and wife Colleen of Scottsdale, Ariz., Joel Shoeneman and wife Linda of Roggen and Mike Shoeneman and wife Sheri of Berthoud; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: His wife, Magdalene, in 1991, and four brothers and five sisters. Services: Rosary, 7 p.m. at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home; Mass of Christian Burial, 9 a.m. Tuesday at Spirit of Peace Catholic Church, 1500 Hover, Longmont. Interment: Elmwood Cemetery, Brighton. Visitation: from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
