    3. Journal Advocate Sterling, Colorado 02-08-2007 Dec. 11, 1922 - Feb. 5, 2006 Wednesday, February 7, 2007 1:00 PM MST Lydia Hee Hettinger, 84, of Sterling, died Feb. 5, 2007, in Sterling. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Eugene R. Zeller officiating. There was cremation. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Mrs. Hettinger was born Dec. 11, 1922, in Lexington, Neb., to Philip John Kufeldt and Rosina Marie (Schmidt) Kufeldt. She was raised in Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School in 1942. She received her bachelor's degree from Kearney State College in Nebraska. She married H. Dean Hee on May 28, 1948. After his death, she married Harold Hettinger on May 1, 1993. In 1967, Mrs. Hettinger moved to Sterling with her family and was a special education teacher at Franklin Elementary in the RE-1 Valley School District. She was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma society for women educators and served on many church committees. Her interests included painting and bird watching. For many years, she was a 4-H leader for special education students. Mrs. Hettinger is survived by her daughter, Gretchen Sturgis of Sterling; stepdaughter, Joselyn Hybiak and husband Stephen of Sterling; stepson, John Hettinger and wife Jackie of Sterling; sisters, Lea Hays of Central City, Neb., and Millie Nicks of Denver; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, George, Alex, Solomon, Willie, Philip, Carl and David Kufeldt; and sisters, Rose Minch, Pauline Wells and Dorthy Kufeldt. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church. - PAID MEMORIAL
