Fred Groh Fred Groh, of Lake Zurich, died Saturday, Jan. 6, > 2006 after a short illness. He was a friend to many > and will be missed by all. Born Oct. 23, 1918 in > Chicago to John and Anna Groh, he lived his life in > Chicago and Lake Zurich. He was drafted into the > Army during World War II where he served as a > Supply Sergeant for the 3rd Army, 2nd Division. He > was awarded a bronze star and a purple heart. While > stationed in England during the war he met his > wife, Doreen Law, who served in the British air > corp. Returning to the US, he and Doreen raised > three children, Ken (Rhonda), Ronald (Robin) and > Janet (Bob) Putbress. Artistically gifted, he > devoted his career to commercial art as a master > airbrush artist, retouching catalog photos for Ace > Hardware, Montgomery Ward and other media. He was > devoted to his family and to creating paintings, > portraits, pastels, miniatures, dioramas and other > enduring artwork, all part of his rich legacy. He > shared his passion for both > classical music and the arts with his children and > grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife > and his three brothers, John Jr., Henry and Alex. > He is survived by two of his children, Ken and > Janet; eight grandchildren, Heidi, Leslie, Lynnsey, > Phillip, Shannon, Ken Jr., April and Sarah; and six > great grandchildren, Michael, Jordyn, Danielle, > Peyton, Kailey and Camryn.
