Scottsbuff Star Hearld Scottsbluff, NE 11 Jan 2007 BAYARD - Katherine "Kate" Schmall, 91, of Bayard, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at the Chimney Rock Villa at Bayard. Her Funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Community Church in Bayard with her son-in-law Pastor Butch Ross officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery. Memorials in her name have been established to the Church or the Nebraska Children's Home at Omaha. Friends may call at the Church, Friday, Jan. 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Her obituary may be viewed at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com, where condolences may be left and will be forwarded to her family. Jolliffe Funeral Home at Bridgeport is in charge of the arrangements. Kate was born May 12, 1915, in Scottsbluff, the daughter of Pete and Mollie (Grasmick) Heimbuck. Her family moved to the Bayard area where she received her education. Kate was united in marriage to Henry Schmall, Feb. 24, 1935 at Bayard. They farmed in the Bayard area for 36 years before their retirement. They then bought the Motel Laposoda at Bayard in 1974 and sold the business in 1984. She was a member of the Community Bible Church and the Church Ladies Group. Kate enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Survivors include her son, James Henry Schmall and his wife JoAnn of Bayard; daughter, Katherine Gale Ross and her husband Butch of Denver; grandchildren, Kimberly Markham and her husband (Clay), Kelley Rice and her husband Tate, Brad Schmall and his wife Renee, Erik Ross, Whendi Kiewel and her husband James; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Miller; half-sister, Lydia Meter; and half-brothers, Robert and Alex Heimbuck.
