    3. Does anyone know where Military records can be found for German-Russians who served in the 1905 Russian war under the Czar? I have a wonderful Green footlocker (Green wood trunk) with Russian pin-ups and the Czar family in it. My Philip Litzenberger served in this war. We have been told, that after 100 years living in Russia, they had to become Russians and serve. Is this correct? Thank you for all your help and wonderful postings. 3. Susan, First anyone could be conscripted into the Russian Army after about 1880, so it wasn't uncommon for German-Russian to be drafted into the Russian Army. As to where the military records can be found. I have read a couple of new articles that this might have become more difficult. One article basically stated that Putin's government has placed restrictions on access to the archives for obvious reasons. I do know that when I was in Russia a couple of years ago we had a presentation at the Saratov Archives in which they indicated that there are records there. Also the KGB archives in Saratov also have records of military service. There are supposed to be ways to searches done in these archives by going through the various consulates in this country but I don't know how successful they are or how much they cost.
