    3. DEINES, MELVIN WILLIAM 1924-2007. Milwaukie resident Mel Deines passed away Thursday, January 11, at his home at the age of 82. Mel was born in Portland to Conrad and Pauline Deines in 1924. A 1942 graduate of Grant High School, he served in the Army during World War II. Upon returning from the service he went to work with his father in the family garbage hauling business. Mel married Louise Stallard in 1949. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, his daughter Kay, son Tim, daughter-in-law Debra and three grandchildren, Brian, Jeffrey and Christopher. In 1968 Mel started his business, Mel Deines Sanitary Service. He was a member of the Milwaukie Kiwanis Club and the Clackamas County Refuse Recycling Association where he was secretary for 12 years. He belonged to the Portland Rifle Club, the Johnson Creek Gun Club and the NRA. An avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed many hours trolling the Willamette for spring salmon. Upon retirement, M el and Louise traveled the West in their motorhome, wintering in the remote desert, hiking and exploring. A wonderful man, Mel was respected and loved by an extended family and many friends. Rest well, our love, after such a long illness. There will be no service, at his request. Arrangements by Stehn Family chapels Milwaukie Tribute Center. Published in The Oregonian on 1/18/2007. <http://obits.oregonlive.com/Oregon/DeathNotices.asp?Page=SEARCHRESULTS>
