I forgot to mention Brent, thanks Dona. Brent has done a fantastic job on many of these records! There are also a number of other people that have been able to obtain census records, Rosemary Larson, Darryl Boyd, Ted Gerk, Nick & Barb Bretz, and many more. It would be nice to have these, and their compilers listed somewhere where we as a group would know what is already compiled and available so that we don't spend more money getting something that has already been done. Something else for out group to debate and discuss! _____ From: Reeves-Marquardt, Dona [mailto:dr03@txstate.edu] Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2007 9:10 AM To: Kevin; ger-volga@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [GV] Census Records Other village census records are available from Brent Mai <bmai@cu-portland.edu> Dona Reeves-Marquardt _____ From: ger-volga-bounces@rootsweb.com on behalf of Kevin Sent: Wed 9/5/2007 8:54 AM To: ger-volga@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GV] Census Records I do have some census records that I have compiled on my web site. These are mostly the Volga Catholic villages. There are a few later census "Family Lists", 1893 Louis, 1874 Liebental, 1895 Mariental, 1874 Katharinenstadt 1874. My web site is www.volgagerman.net ,then go to the research page. On the Engels archives if you look at the "Funds" you will see a few of the later census lists and family census that are housed at that archives. Go to the main page, follow the Products link. On that page there is information about some new census data. If you follow that link it will lead you to page listing what is available for different colonies. There is also a link on that page that will lead you to an alphabetical listing of surnames by village/colony found in the census. One other nice feature is that this list gives you the German name of the village as well as the Russian name. I know we all fumble around trying to remember the Russian names at one time or another - or we simply don't know what it is. New researchers should also not neglect looking at the Odessa website.
