Carl, What an interesting coincidence! One of my great-grandfathers was naturalized in Bay City Michigan, and my maternal grandfather was born there. My mom's whole family came through Detroit from Canada. I've had good luck obtaining naturalization papers for Michigan. Go to this web site. http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449_18635_20684---,00.html Scroll down to Bay County. The files are grouped alphabetically. I see two Godfrey Peils and three Gottfried Peils. Print out that page so you have the box and folder numbers. Now go back to the main page and click on "Archives of Michigan Requests" and follow the instructions on that page.
