Some suggestions: Regarding the type of copies you receive when ordering from the archives, the copies will be copy machine (Xerox type) copies. At least one person received some copies of church documents from somebody, that were copies made with a digital camera. The lighting was very poor, and the digital file was very poor, and not completely legible. Because of poor lighting, the writing was not very legible. If and when you get copies, I would suggest that you go and get another copy made of the pages. The archives apparently do not keep their copiers cleaned and working like we expect here in the US from copy centers. The documents may be light, so you may need to darken them up, and some have indicated that when they had the documents copied, there was an excessive amount of toner on the pages. Gary Martens
I have scanned all of the church records and the 1858 Oberdorf census that I received from the Russian archives and saved them to a CD. The scanned image is easy to enhance and enlarge if needed. It is also easier to share the documents with others via email. And yes, I agree the copies I have seen out of Russia are not the best, but at least they have copiers now! The Oberdorf census came on an odd-sized paper and was very difficult to read. Enlarging the image made it much easier to translate.
