    3. Scottsbluff Star Hearld Scottsbluff, NE 3 May 2007 SIDNEY - Martha Schnell 90 years, 2 months and 12 days, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 4, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions are to the family's choice. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements. Martha (Burbach) Schnell was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Scottsbluff, the daughter of Henry and Pauline (Wassemiller) Burbach. On February 11, 1934 she was united in marriage to Conrad P. Schnell at Scottsbluff. The family lived and farmed in the Scottsbluff and Minatare area until moving to Sidney in 1940. They moved to Alliance in 1945. While living in Alliance she taught Bible Class and Sunday School for both Pastor Meyer and Pastor Huber at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They moved to the Sidney area in 1955. Following a short time in California and Washington, they moved back to Sidney in 1960. Martha worked at the Memorial Hospital for 25 years as both a floor nurse and circulating nurse in surgery. She retired from the Hospital in 1982. Following her husband's death in 1991, Martha became involved in the Foster Grandparent Program and worked at South School until 2004 when she retired from the School Program. During her time at South, she gained many 'grandchildren'. Martha is survived by her daughters, Shirley Schnell of Gering, Gladys Lancaster of Bayard and Kathryn Patterson and husband Art of Rapid City, S.D.; brother, Kenneth of Great Falls, Va.; sisters, Elsie Zitterkopf of Bayard, Freda Dalton of Toppenish, Wash., Lucille Campbell of Yakima, Wash., Dorothy Pearson of Vancouver, Wash. and Beverly Nicoli also of Yakima; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Her husband of 57 years; her parents; sisters, Ruth Dalton, Millie Heilbrun and Edna Burbach; brother, Herman and grandson, Sam Patterson, preceded Martha in death.
