Gus' mother remarried Fred Ott Sr. and through this union Gus obtained three brothers, Fred Ott Jr., George Ott, and Bill Ott and two sisters, Irene and Betty. He loved the land and his early career choice was to be a farmhand and then later after he met the love of his life, to farm on his own. He met and later married Mollie Schwartz of Scottsbluff Nov. 25, 1934. To this union were born three sons, Johnny, Tommy, and Billy Engstrom. Gus retired from the farm in 1953, and began working for Lockwood Corporation. He retired from there after 19 years. Still wanting to keep busy, he then went to work for his two younger sons, Tom and Bill at Engstrom Fertilizer and Chemical Company. In 1988, at the age of 76, he finally retired for the last time. Survivors include his sons, John G. (Ann) Engstrom, Tom E. (JoAnn) Engstorm of Gering and Bill C. (Harlean) Engstrom of Rapid City, S.D.; brother, George (Pauline) Ott of Scottsbluff; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death in 1988, was his wife of 63 years, Mollie; a daughter, two brothers, two sis-ters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
