Billings Gazette Billings, MT 5 May 2007 POWELL, Wyo. - Zern Arthur Richendifer, of Powell, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was 65. He was born April 6, 1942, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Elwyn H. and Jessie Louise (Steiner) Richendifer. He graduated from Converse County High School in Douglas in 1960 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Zern and Carol Lynn Drennen were married in Douglas on Sept. 1, 1963. To this union were born three children: sons Jeff and Mike, and daughter Deb. The family moved to Powell in 1975 to purchase the Culligan water softening franchise. Zern later became a fixture in automotive sales in Powell and operated his own automobile sales business after many years as a salesman for local dealerships. He was a member of the Elks and a past Elk of the Year in the Powell Lodge 2303. He was a longtime member of the Powell Fire Department, and his hobbies included fishing, boating, hunting, camping and four-wheeling. He is survived by his mother Jessie of Douglas; his wife, Carol of Powell; sons Jeff (Kristen) of Port Orchard, Wash., Mike (Erika) of Bonney Lake, Wash., and daughter Deb (Nevin) Jacobs of Powell; six grandchildren; brothers Jim (Kerri) of Kaycee, and Ken (Linda) of Riverton. He was preceded in death by his father, Elwyn, in 2000, and his grandson, Ryan Turner Jacobs, in 1986. Funeral services in Powell will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Union Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jarrell Tharp officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Richendifer, Mike Richendifer, Nevin Jacobs, Jim Richendifer, Greg Richendifer, Andy Jacobs, Eric Jacobs, Nickolas Richendifer and Jackson Zern Richendifer. Services will also be held in Douglas on Tuesday, May 8, 1 p.m., at the Congregational Church with Carol Prochaska officiating. Burial will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
