She was 94 years young. Marian was born Jan. 4, 1920, on her grandparents’ farm in Fort Collins, Colo. Her parents, Germans from Russia immigrants from the Volga region, were Conrad J. Feit and Eva Catherina (Winter) Feit. At the age of three, the family moved to Eaton, Colo., Mrs. Peppler attended school in Eaton, graduating from Eaton High School in 1937. She was awarded a scholarship to Barnes Business College in Denver, which she attended. Upon completion of her coursework at Barnes Business College, she worked for the U.S. Forest Service. On Nov. 24, 1938, she married Harold Peppler of Eaton, the son of another Germans from Russia immigrant family. Mrs. Peppler became a housewife at the Peppler farm in Eaton. The Pepplers moved to Denver during WWII where Harold worked as a welder. They returned to farming in the Severance area following the war, and later moved to a farm in Barnesville. The Pepplers had a son, Robbin, in 1958, and moved soon thereafter to a farm along the Godfrey Bottom in LaSalle. The family farmed the land until 2005. In 1964, Marian began working as a part-time secretary for United Bank of LaSalle. She worked in every position in the bank, serving as cashier, loan officer, vice president, and executive vice president. In 1981, Mrs. Peppler was named the president and chief executive officer of United Bank of LaSalle. She was the first woman bank president in Colorado and one of only a few in the nation. She also was the first woman to serve on a Colorado bank’s board of directors. She retired on Jan. 31, 1985, and was featured in the “Signature” column of the Greeley Daily Tribune the following week. Her husband, Harold, died after a long illness on Sept. 14, 1985. Marian was a wonderful woman who enjoyed everything life offered. She was a great cook, especially making traditional Germans from Russia dishes. She loved sharing stories about growing up in an immigrant family, getting an education, and working with her husband on the farm. After her retirement, she took advantage of the opportunity to travel within the United States and overseas. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and board games, reading, and attending plays. Most of all, she liked spending time with her family and many friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
