Helzer, Joseph Joey Daniel, May 7, 1985-July 25, 2014 The Tribune Greeley, Colorado 29 Jul 2014 Age: 29 Residence: Greeley Joey Helzer was taken from this earth unexpectedly Friday night, July 25, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family. Joey was born and raised in Greeley, where he lived most of his life. He also spent five months in Clarksville, Tenn., at the beginning of this year. Everywhere Joey worked and played he made lasting friendships. Joey will be remembered as a loving, caring, compassionate man who would share anything he had. He was born May 7, 1985, in Greeley to Richard D. and Kristi L. (Richardson) Helzer. Joey graduated from Greeley Central High School, where he played football and wrestled. He also played the stand-up bass in orchestra. He went on to attend Aims Community College. During his short life he worked as a newspaper carrier, cook, painter, welder, laborer, and grocery store clerk, where he always had pennies for the children to ride the electronic quarter horse at King Soopers. He was an impromptu entertainer always making others smile and feel special. Joey had a great sense of humor and gave the best hugs you could get. Some of his outfits were quite memorable and he loved occasions that gave him an excuse to dress-up. Joey had patience and determination, which resulted in successfully training several family dogs to perform unique and silly tricks including his stubborn, beloved dog Reggie, who already misses him. Joey could build and fix almost anything because he would take the time to read and examine directions, which isnt a Helzer family trait. He had a fascination with gadgets, gizmos and tape. Joey loved movies and enjoyed sharing his personal film reviews with others. He got excited over every genre, not limiting himself to any one theme. He enjoyed a good book and playing video games with friends. Music was a passion. He loved his family, extended family and was blessed with many treasured cousins and friends of all ages. Joey is survived by his older brother, Ben; and his parents, Rich and Kristi; his grandmother, Darlene Helzer, all of Greeley; uncles, aunts and cousins, Dennis and Cindy Helzer, Jayson and Alison Bonefant, and Jaxson all of New York; Bill and Julie Richardson, Teagan and Shyla of Wisconsin; Marc Richardson, Lynn Richardson, Nick Richardson, Lucus and Isaiah Richardson; Vicky Gettman, Patrick Richardson of Greeley; Jeff and Laura Richardson, Hannah, McKenzie and Madison Richardson of Greeley; Dave and Lori (Richardson) Krause of Greeley; Kelsey Krause and Mark Behrmann of Albuquerque, N.M.; Shelby Krause of Wheatridge; and numerous other blood relatives and family by choice.
