Schlager, Shirley, November 7, 1932- July 14, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 17 Jul 2014 Shirley Rosie Schlager, 81, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Jolliffe Funeral Home. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Shirleys honor be made in care of the church. Shirley was born November 7, 1932 in Bayard, NE to John Schmall, Jr. and Rosie (Hoffman) Schmall. She received her education and graduated from Bayard High School in 1950. She married Walter Schlager on December 10, 1950 and to this union were born four children: Leland, Rick, Terri, and Wally. They lived and farmed north of Scottsbluff for over 45 years. Shirley was very active in her church; being a long time member of the Friendly Circle, choir, and German choir. She was a member of the BPO Does Drove. She was very musically inclined and played piano, organ, and accordion. She also enjoyed playing cards, cooking, gardening, attending Dutch hops, and spending time with her many friends. Shirley is survived by her children Leland (Debra) Schlager, Rick (Karen) Schlager, Terri (Dale) Beckmann and Wally (Becki) Schlager; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Walter; parents, grandparents; brother, Larry Schmall; sisters-in-law, Mary Schmall and Donna Stricker; and brother-in-law, Ronald Stricker preceded her in death.
