Mike Heltenberg, 50, of Greeley, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 12, 1963, in Fort Morgan to Carroll and Eileen (Ostwald) Heltenberg. The family moved to Greeley from Fort Morgan in 1965 and Mike attended Greeley schools. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy shortly after his birth and, despite his disability, Mike lived independently in different cities throughout the United States. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Denver Broncos. Survivors include his mother, Eileen Heltenberg of Evans; his father, Carroll Heltenberg of Greeley; a brother and his wife, Brad and Crystal Heltenberg of Gill; two nieces, Kayla Hill and husband, Brady of Eaton, and Paitton Heltenberg of Greeley; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and special caregiver, Deb Futch of Greeley. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Reinhold and Nellie Ostwald and Charles and Zella Heltenberg. A memorial service to celebrate Mikes life will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at the Evans Community Complex, 1100 37th St., Evans.
