    3. Cooke, Lorene, July 18, 1928- Jan. 26, 2014 The Tribune-Eagle Cheyenne, Wyoming 31 Jan 2014 Lorene Cooke, 85, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away Jan. 26 in Mesa. She was born July 18, 1928, in Fort Morgan, Colo., to immigrant parents, John and Anna (Steinmetz) Eckhardt. She graduated from Cheyenne High School, and she married Chuck Carter during the infamous “Blizzard of ’49” in Cheyenne. They were stationed with the military in Germany, Phoenix and 29 years in Tacoma, Wash., where she worked for Sliders Upholstery. She was preceded in death by her parents; godparents; five brothers; three sisters; and husbands, Chuck Carter and Gordon Cooke. She is survived by daughter, Sharon (Carter) Nolan; granddaughter, Donna (Sean) Jokie with children Cameron and Nolan, all of Mesa; nephews and nieces, Rick Eckhardt, Johnny Eckhardt, Barbara Clark, Tracy Palmer, Dr. Linda Walters, all of Cheyenne; James Eckhardt, Robert Eckhardt, Vickie Williams and Alice Venrick; and close high school friend, Pauline Poch. A memorial will be Sunday in Mesa.
