Eckhardt, Esther, Jan. 8, 1917- Nov. 4, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 6 Nov 2014 Esther Eckhardt, 97, of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014 at the Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Todd Seay officiating. Interment will follow at Mitchell Valley Cemetery south of Mitchell. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 at Jones Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Emanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jones-mortuary.com. Esther was born to Adam and Eve (Eckert) Zitterkopf in Harrington, Kansas on Jan. 8, 1917. The family moved to the North Platte Valley where she attended various schools. Esther received her GED later in life. Esther married Conrad Eckhardt Oct. 17, 1942 in Harrisburg. Together they farmed in the Mitchell Valley, retiring in 1972. Esther was employed by several businesses including ABC Nursery, Mitchell Cleaners and Great Western Sugar Company. She loved flowers, gardening, Western movies and was an avid reader and history buff. Conrad and Esther traveled extensively throughout the United States in their motor home. Survivors include her daughters, Connie (Ron) Langhofer of Bayard and Kerrin Tallmon of North Platte; son, Randy Eckhardt of Mitchell; grandchildren, Chanden (Karen) Langhofer of San Diego, CA, Veronica (Angelo) Veraldi of Avon, CO, Reed Langhofer of Brooklyn, NY, Shawn (Dawn) Tallmon of North Platte, Justin (Jennifer) Tallmon of Glennwood, IA, and Amber (Jeremy) Garges of Castle Rock, CO, Erik Eckhardt of Mitchell, and Derik Eckhardt of Seattle, WA; great grandchildren, Shayla Tallmon of North Platte, Randy Tallmon of North Platte, Samantha (Mitchell) Murphy of North Platte, Jonathon Tallmon of Glennwood, IA, Jace Tallmon of Glennwood, IA, Hartley Garges of Castle Rock, CO, Hollis Garges of Caste Rock, CO, Audra Koening Eckhardt of Mitchell, and Elsie and Henry Langhofer of San Diego, CA; great great grandchild, Riley Murphy of North Platte; and sisters-in-law, Jeanette Zitterkopf and Wilma Zitterkopf of Scottsbluff. Preceding Esther in death were her parents; husband, Conrad of 63 years; sisters, Elizabeth Fields, Katheryn Haberman, Elsie Dutzer, Alma Wells, and Helen Bott; and brothers, Jack and Albert Zitterkopf.
