Margheim, Donald Lee, Nov. 27, 1934- Oct. 28, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 8 Nov 2014 Donald Lee Margheim, 79, former Gering resident, died Oct. 28, 2014 at his home in Lancaster, Calif. He was born Nov. 27, 1934 in Gering and raised in the area. After high school graduation, Don attended the University of Nebraska and played quarterback for the Cornhuskers. He later joined the navy and was stationed in San Diego, Calif. After his military service ended, he moved to Lancaster to start his 30 year aerospace career working on the Xb70, Apollo, B-1, and space shuttle programs until his retirement. Don was named the Citizen of the Century for Science and Technology by the Scottsbluff Star-Herald Pride 2000. Don is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Nellie, his sons David (Shelly), Dennis (Suzanne) and Richard (Ashley). He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and brother Tom (Kim). He was preceded in death by his parents John and Pauline, wife Joanne, and brother Clarence.
