Herman, Barbara May, July 6, 1930-Aug. 29, 2014 The Tribune Greeley, Colorado 4 Sep 2014 Age: 84 Residence: Greeley Barbara May Herman, 84, passed away on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born July 6, 1930, in Greeley. Her parents, Benjamin Irvine and Grace (Whipple) Irvine, welcomed her into the world as the last of their three children. She grew up in Greeley and graduated from Greeley High in 1949. On Aug. 28, 1949, she married the love of her life, Alvin J. Herman. Together they raised their family at the east edge of Greeley, while Barbara gardened, knitted, sewed, raised animals and took great care of her family. After the kids left home, Barbara worked at Garnsey & Wheeler Ford Body Shop, retiring 20 years later. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose #909 and Auxiliary of the VFW #6624. The Herman family would like to thank the EMTs, Greeley Fire Department, emergency room personnel, the doctors and nurses at North Colorado Medical Center (especially those in the burn unit) who came to her aid during her brief stay. We also appreciate the Hospice staff for their kind and gentle support during her transition and Scott Moser for meeting with us over a holiday weekend. Barbara is survived by her husband, Al Herman; daughters, Shari Nova and Karen Endahl; son, Alan Herman and his significant other, Debra Poehler-Nelson; sister, Betty Johnson of California; sister-in-law, Beth Irvine, Greeley; grandsons, Jason Casseday, San Diego, and Eric and Austin Endahl, Greeley; granddaughter, Mariah Rogers, St. Louis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, two sister-in-laws, and brother-in-laws. At Barbara’s request, no formal services will be held. For the friends and family who called her “Mom,” just remember she would be the first to remind you to live each day to the fullest.
