Hauf, Doug Deines, Aug. 20, 1970- Sept. 19, 2014 Billings Gazette Billings, Montana 22 Sep 2014 PIERRE, S.D. — Doug Deines Hauf, 44, most recently of Pierre, S.D., passed into the hands of his lord on Sept. 19, 2014. Doug was a man of varied interests and although his passing was far too soon, his life was marked by a number of highlights. Doug was born Aug. 20, 1970, in Billings the son of Jerry and Rosetta Hauf. He was raised in Billings and graduated from Billings West High. Early in life Doug developed a passion for music which he pursued as a drummer. Billings West Band, private lessons and music school in California allowed him to pursue his dream of excellence. He took pride in having played at the Alberta Bair Theater, the Billings Studio Theater and in an opening act band for the Charlie Daniels Band. Doug valued education and studied music at Northwest College, Powell, Wyo., followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from South Dakota State University, Brookings, S.D. in 1998. He concluded his academic career with a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Doug lived in Sheridan, Wyo. for a number of years where he held a variety of jobs including work at an art studio where he applied his interest in art and photography. For several years Doug served as a counselor at NSI Academy for troubled teens. In 2012, Doug relocated to Pierre, S.D. to begin a career in computer programming, first with Eagle Creek Consulting and most recently the State of South Dakota. Writing was another passion for Doug who authored and self-published a novel on Amazon. The writing was another outlet for Doug’s creative talents. Doug is preceded in death by his mother Rosetta K. Deines; his father Jerry Lee Hauf; his grandparents Harry and Rose Deines of Laurel and Ronald and Rene Hauf of Edgar. Paternal survivors include his aunt Carole Ann Hauf of Billings; uncle Charles B. Hauf and wife Sandy of Houston, Texas; cousins John Hauf and wife Nadine and children Peyton, Luke and Blake of Allen, Texas; Suzanne Conway and husband COL Franz Conway and children Sean and Brett of Bel Air, Md. Maternal survivors include Aunt Donna Leuthold of Billings; cousins Jeff Leuthold and wife Ingeri and family of Billings and Rick Leuthold and wife Cindy and family of Billings and Denver. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Smith Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th Street in Billings. Interment of the urn will be in the Huntley Cemetery.
