Henkel, Lydia, Aug. 8, 1920-Dec. 13, 2014 The Tribune Greeley, Colorado 17 Dec 2014 Age: 94 Residence: Greeley Lydia Viola Henkel — loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 13, 2014. She was born to David and Molly Sigwardt in Hillrose, on Aug. 8, 1920. She married Ralph Henkel on March 7, 1942, and shortly after that he flew with his crew on a B-24 stationed out of England, accomplishing 20 missions over enemy territory. Lydia traveled by train when Ralph was in the states, visiting him at every base where he was stationed, recalling many wonderful times even during the ravages of war. Most of their lives they farmed in the Brighton and Pierce area, until they moved to Greeley in 1964. They owned the Bible Book House in downtown Greeley during the ’70s, where many people found it a refuge from the world. After her husband died, Lydia worked full time at the Greeley Clinic until she was 85 years old. Lydia was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Greeley. In her senior years, she led the singing for the shut-ins at various nursing homes in Greeley, which the Nazarene Church sponsored. Lydia is survived by son, Greg Henkel and wife Julie of Greeley; daughter, Barbara Carmack of Denver; six grandchildren, Kimberly Duell of Tulsa, Okla., Dana Wells of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tony Henkel, Amanda Lucio and Melissa Miller all of Greeley, and Seth Henkel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leroy Sigwardt and Esther Noerenberg both of Greeley, Virginia Lyon of Chatsworth, Calif. and Mel Sigwardt of Mesa, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Henkel, Sr.; son, Ralph Henkel, Jr.; brothers, Reuben and Albert Sigwardt; sister, Amy Stapp. A celebration of Lydia’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Adamson Chapel.
