    3. Gross, William A., Jan. 13, 1929- Dec. 6, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 7 Dec 2014 William A. Gross, 85 of Gering passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at Heritage Estates. His graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 at 3 p.m. at West Lawn Cemetery with Jessy Richard officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard. Casual attire is requested. Cremation has taken place per William’s request. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gering Rescue Unit. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Gering Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. William A. Gross was born on Jan. 13, 1929 at Gering to August and Katherine (Knaub) Gross. He attended Gering schools then worked on his father’s farm. In 1951, Willie was inducted into the U.S. Army and served until 1953. After his honorable discharge in the U.S. Army, Willie worked for Home Glass Company. In 1959, Willie attended an electrical technician school in Denver, Colo. After graduating from technician school, he worked for the Atlas Missile program in Cheyenne, Wyo.; Topeka, Kan. and Altus, Okla. Willie returned to Gering and opened a glass shop in Cheyenne alongside his brother, John and a nephew, Donald. In 1979, he went to work for the City of Scottsbluff’s water department until he retired in 1991. He is survived by his brother Fred Gross of Gering, sister Bette Sieber of San Antonio, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
