Zitterkopf , Lorine Virginia, December 18, 1916- August 21, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 23 Aug 2014 Lorine Virginia Zitterkopf, 97, of Gering, Nebraska passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Residency Care Center. Her memorial service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at noon at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Private family graveside will be prior at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-6 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Gering or the Northfield Retirement Communities North Star Angels. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Lorine was born on December 18, 1916 in Sterling, Nebraska to Carl Aaron and Leona Pearl (Hawbaker) Buehler. In 1920, the family moved to a farm SW of Gering. She attended Cedar Valley School and graduated from Gering High School in 1935. She married Conrad Zitterkopf on September 23, 1938 and lived on the family farm for several years. Later they moved to their farm SW of Gering on Carter Canyon road. She helped her husband with the farm work. Her husband, Conrad passed away in 1968. She remained on the farm for 15 years until moving to Gering in 1984, later residing at Northfield Villa in 1993. Lorine was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gering for over 75 years. She was treasurer of the United Methodist Women, Dome Rock and Cedar Canyon School Boards, and Carter Canyon Project Club. Volunteer work included being a life member of Regional West Medical Center Auxiliary with over 1,000 hours of service. She additionally cooked for church activities, funerals and “Old Settlers” at Oregon Trail Days. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, growing flowers, especially roses, making quilts and sewing. Survivors include her daughters, Verna Jean Meier of Scottsbluff, Connie (E.J.) Russel of Gering, Jane (Ron) Kramer of Salina, KS and son Dennis (Ann) Zitterkopf of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jon (Vicki) Lockwood of Plattsmouth, NE, Brian (Yvette) Zitterkopf and Andrew (Gail) Zitterkopf both of Houston, TX, and Tracy (Todd) Schoenhofer of Andover, KS; step grandchildren Larry (Sally) Russel of Scottsbluff, Gene (Evie) Russel of Gering, Lynn Russel, Mary (Jeff) Waitt and Gail (Francis) Scalley all of Connecticut and Kody (Katherine) Kramer of New Orleans; great grandchildren, Taylor Lockwood, Cade and Brett Schoenhofer and Chase Zitterkopf; 12 step great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law Loyd Durfee of Mitchell, sisters-in-law Josephine Buehler, Rita Zitterkopf, Margaret Jerger and Hilda Skruck and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Conrad, brothers Wallace and Leland Buehler, sister Kathleen Durfee and son-in-law Kenneth Eugene Meier.
