    3. Here is link to a 1941 Volga German Republic map "Die Deutschen Siedlungen in Der Sowjetunion" by Geo. Leibbrandt. What is most interesting to me are all the smaller German settlements (i.e. those other than mother colonies and daughter colonies). These German settlements would have been former khutors, hamlets and by this time collective farms. http://chort.square7.ch/Buch/LeibWg.pdf Original website source: http://chortiza.heimat.eu/Karten.htm Use Ulrich Mertens' German Russian Handbook (2010) and you can find many of these same settlements listed. For example, in the upper right hand corner of the map I see two settlements not far from each other labeled "Tra"nkteich". In Mertens I find the most northerly one was associated with Bettinger [Tra"nkteich-zu-Bettinger] while the other was called "Tra"nkteich-zu-Scho"chen". Unfortunately many of these mapped settlements also listed by Mertens, offer little or no additional information---but at least these resources give the researcher something with which to work.
