Sauer, Arthur Dean, June 6, 1945- March 10, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 12 Mar 2014 BAYARD — Arthur Dean Sauer, 68, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Interment will be in Bayard Cemetery with military honors conducted by the U. S. Marines. Memorials have been established to Bayard Volunteer Fire and Rescue and the Bayard American Legion. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com. Arthur was born June 6, 1945 in Scottsbluff, to Louie and Mary (Satur) Sauer, Sr. He received his education in Bayard schools before entering the U. S. Marines Jan. 18, 1966. Art served during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Corporal. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1968, he returned to the Sauer homestead where he farmed with his father, brother and nephews until he retired. Art married the love of his life Patricia Lager in September 1969. There were happily united until her untimely and sudden death in 1977. He was then united in marriage to Janice Rahmig in 1978 until 2006. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time with his grandchildren. He also was an avid fisherman and hunter spending several months down in Texas fishing with his family and best friend “Doc.” Art was a member of Zion Evangelical Church, Bayard American Legion, Elks Lodge #1367, Pork Producers of Nebraska and Western Sugar Coop. Art is survived by his son, Dean (Denise) Sauer of Bayard; daughter, Brenda (Doug) Miller, Scottsbluff; sister, Virginia (Dennis) Larson of Nevada; sister, Gladys Hubbard of Scottsbluff; brother, Louie (Betty) Sauer, Jr. of Bayard; brothers-in-law, Fred Quindt, III, and Dick Lager both of Scottsbluff; sister-in-law, Joan (Marvin) Suhr, Fremont, Neb.; grandchildren, Jocilyn and Brittany Sauer of Bayard and Breanna, Tristan and Emily Miller of Scottsbluff. Art was preceded in death by his wife Patricia and unborn child; parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ben and Tinea Lager; sister, Dorothy Quindt; brother-in-law, Vern Hubbard; sister, Delores Minch, and nephew, Jason Sauer.
