Barthel, Richard, October 5, 1934- June 13, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 12 Jun 2014 Funeral services for RICHARD L. BARTHEL, 79, will be held at 2pm Friday, June 13, 2014 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Firminhac officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Richard died June 10, 2014 at Community Hospital. Memorials may be given to the WagginÂ’ Tails Animal Shelter. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 4pm to 6pm and the casket will be open at the church prior to the service. Richard was born October 5, 1934 in Cottier, Wyoming the son of Julius and Ethel (Sutton) Barthel. He lived on the family farm until his mother and fatherÂ’s death. He was the drafted into the US Army and served in Korea in the 24th Division. After his discharge he returned home in 1957 and went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department. He married Patricia Burkard in 1959 and they raised and enjoyed their three children. He retired from the highway department in 1990. Richard collected trains, and enjoyed bowling until his health did not allow it. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially his coffee buddies. Richard is survived by his wife Pat of Torrington, Wyoming; daughters Terri Munoz and her husband Fernando of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Julie Barthel of Torrington; a son Gary Barthel and his wife Ginger of Torrington; sisters Shirley Gartman of Brighton, Colorado, and Bonnie Carnal of Kentucky; a brother Edward Barthel of Long Beach, California; grandchildren Melysa (Dustin) Johnson, Jessica (Trent Gladson) Burns, Geremy Barthel, Michael (Sarah) Munoz, Mandy (Matt) Eldridge, and Fernando Munoz III; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Carolyn; and three brothers Charles, Jim, and Robert.
