Wertz, Howard Victor, July 8, 2014 April 8, 2014 The Tribune Greeley, Colorado 11 Apr 2014 Age: 91 Residence: Johnstown Howard Victor Wertz, 91, of Johnstown, passed away on April 8, 2014, at his residence in Johnstown. He was born on July 8, 1922, in Leota, Kan., to Herman and Cleo Wertz. Howard grew up on the rural plains of Colorado, during the Great Depression and, in 1942, joined the military, becoming a very proud member of the Armys 44th Tank Battalion, until his honorable discharge in 1946. After the war, he returned to Colorado and married the beautiful Dorothy Lee Martin of Johnstown, on Sept. 16, 1951. He lived out the majority of his life in the Johnstown area, raising a strong family and working at the Great Western Sugar Factory, until his retirement. During his retirement, Howard enjoyed camping, fishing, visits from family and sitting in the yard. Howard is survived by his sons, Perry and Larry, both of Johnstown; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Heather, April, Kiefer, Kodi, Amanda, Matt, Alex, Neveah, Austin, and Lariah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, of 63 years; his parents; and all his siblings, Richard, Herman, Gale, Wendle, Marvin, Floyd, Glen, Buella, and Velma. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Adamson Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, 3999 W.
