Frank, Alexander H., April 1, 1954- April 10, 2014 Billings Gazette Billings, Montana 16 Apr 2014 Alex Frank CUSTER — Alexander (Alex) Frank, 60, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He was born April 1, 1954, to Cooney and Whilemina Frank in Silesia. Alex attended Silesia Elementary and Joliet High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He graduated in 1972 and he went on to farm his family farm south of Laurel until 1995. He won the most outstanding young farmer award in 1982. He then moved to Absarokee and went to work for Stillwater County as an area grader operator in the Rapelje and Molt areas where he moved to in 1998. During this time he was selected as an LTAP Roads Scholar in 2006. In 2008 he went to work for Yellowstone County Road and Bridge as the Custer area operator where was employed at the time of his passing. In 1976 he married Connie Kukes, and they had two children, Katharine and Jason. They later divorced in 1991, and he married Kim James in 1999 and later divorced. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Phillip “Bull” and Mary Frank; parents, Cooney Sr. and Whilemina (Mimi) Frank; and infant brother, Cooney Jr. Alex is survived by his children, Katharine (Justin) Rupp of Wisconsin, Jason (Krista) Frank of Billings; and his three grandchildren, (Katharine) Dorian, Josie Lyn and Sterling; two brothers, John (Irish) Frank of Los Angeles and Michael (Crystal) Frank of Singapore. We would like to thank Dr. Lucus along with all the doctors, nurses and staff of Frontier Cancer Center and St. Vincent Hospital who took such great care of Alex during his battle. Alex will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends he had throughout his life. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frontier Cancer Center in Billings, MT, or the American Cancer Society.
