Schmall, Donald Leroy Sr., March 19, 1940- October 9, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 11 Oct 2014 Donald Leroy Schmall, Sr., 74, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at his home with family by his side. His Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014 at Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice or Salem Congregational Church. Online condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com Donald was born March 19, 1940 in Scottsbluff the son of Jacob and Millie (Dillman) Schmall. He was raised by his stepfather Jake Frank. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School and started working for Lockwood Corporation soon thereafter. He held many positions at Lockwoods from laborer to foreman during his employment. He retired from Lockwood Corporation after 43 years of service. He was a member of Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff. On Sept. 11, 1961 Donald was united in marriage to Loretta J. Kanzler at Bridgeport. They made their home in Scottsbluff. Donald enjoyed farming and farm animals, working with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on 4-H projects, attending the county fair, spending time with his family, traveling, gambling in Deadwood, S.D., hunting for rocks, watching the birds and in his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing. Donald is survived by his wife Loretta; daughter Cheryl (Tony) Coffey of Gering; sons Paul (Nancy) Nelson of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Donald Jr. (Saralyn) Schmall of Minatare; daughters Tamera (Myron) Miller of Loveland, Colo., and Cindy (Mark) Schmidt of Minatare; grandchildren Melissa (Jason) Coats of Scottsbluff, Amber Kizzire (Doran Hess) of Gering, Jessica (Malcom) Ong of Kansas City, Kan., Dustin (Samantha) Kizzire of Gering, James (Caitalyn) Nelson of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Ryan Schmidt of Minatare, PVT Donny Schmall of Fort Hood, TX. Currently serving in the US Army, and Justin Schmall of Minatare; step grandchildren Teri Findley of North Dakota, Myron Leigh Miller of Missouri, Miria (Matt) Wilson of Utah, Anthony TJ (Tristain) Coffey of Cozad, Neb., Amanda Garcia of Cozad, and Justin (Sarah) Coffey of Cozad; and 27 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Donald is also survived by his brother William Bill (Jean) Frank of Gering; sisters Hanna Swecker of Billings, Mont., Edna Yost of Billings, Mont., Verna Walker of Bellevue, Wash., Eleanor Wolff of Chicago, Ill., and Maryann (Charles) Cowan of Gering; sisters-in-law June Ring of Scottsbluff, Dorothy Kobobel of Greeley, Colo., Donna Johnson of Gering, and Betty Kanzler of Scottsbluff. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather; sister Betty Lie; brothers-in-law Don Swecker, Leroy Yost, Don Walker, Ervin Wolff, Victor Dietz, Henry Ring, Harry Johnson, Melvin Kanzler, Harold Kanzler, and John Kanzler; and sister-in-law Lillian Dietz.
