Hoen, Joan Kay (Kaufman), Oct. 5, 1950- Dec. 8, 2013 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 8 Oct 2014 Joan Kay, 63, passed away Dec. 8, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y. after a hard fought battle against cancer. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Congregational Church, 4100 Ave. B in Scottsbluff. Joan was born Oct. 5, 1950 to David C. and Dorothy (Eisenach) Kaufman in Scottsbluff. She received her early education at Melbeta Public School and graduated form Gering High School in 1968. Joan attended West Nebraska General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN nursing degree Aug. 13, 1971. She received her Masters Degree and went on to become a nurse practitioner and physiciansÂ’ assistant. In her more than 30 years of caring for the health of others all over the Albany area, she touched the hearts of many and saved many lives. Joan married Don Hoen, Dec. 18, 1971 in Rensselaer, N.Y., where they made their home and raised their family. She is survived by her sons, Eric and wife Amy Hoen of Centennial, Colo., Mark and wife Tracy Hoen of East Greenbush, N.Y., Rebecca Hoen of Wynantskill, N.Y. and four grandchildren. Her parents David and Dorothy Kaufman of Hawk Springs, Wyo.; brothers and sisters, David A. Kaufman, Cheryl Cauble, Judy Loyd all of Gering, Mark Kaufman of Wheatland, Wyo. and Paul Kaufman of Hawk, Springs, Wyo. Preceding her in death was her husband Don and grandparents, David and Margaret Kaufman and Henry and Marie Eisenach. She will be remembered for her generous heart, never ending sense of humor, love and support of education, and her faith in God. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she will always be in their hearts and will watch over them from heaven.
