Schreiner, Philip, Oct. 11, 1919- Oct. 2, 2014 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 4 Oct 2014 TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Philip Schreiner, 94, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at the Goshen Care Center and cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Goshen County Library Foundation Endowment. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com. Philip was born Oct. 11, 1919 in Minatare to Jacob and Elizabeth (Schwindt) Schreiner. In April of 1942 he joined the Air Force and was stationed in New Guinea for 30 months. He received a medal for his participation in the Philippine Liberation conflict. After completing his tour in New Guinea he boarded a ship for the trip back to the United States. While the ship was docked in the Philippines it became the target for a Japanese suicide bomber causing numerous casualties. Upon his return to the United States, Philip married Lila Milberger on Oct. 4, 1945. They had hoped to celebrate their sixty-ninth wedding anniversary on Saturday. Following their marriage they moved to the family farm. They farmed in the Torrington area until 1969 when he went to work for JR Simplot until his retirement in 1985. His retirement activities included woodworking and having coffee with his buddies. Philip is survived by his wife Lila; daughters, Kathy Haines, Karol and Duane Stricker; sister-in-law, Isabel and Calvin Hoy; grandchildren, Lynette Saucedo, Rebecca Haines, Brenda Darnell, Kimberly Doremus, and Kelly Stricker; 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters, and two great-grandchildren.
