Schneider, Eva, June 7, 1911- Dec. 14, 2010 Billings Gazette Billings, MT 19 Dec 2010 Eva Schneider, resident of St. John's Lutheran Home passed away Dec. 14, 2010. Eva was born June 7, 1911, to Henry and Annie Hartung in Billings, and baptized in the little school house on Shiloh Road and Central, which was used for a church and is still standing at that location today. The family contracted with beet farmers and settled in Laurel, Mont. Eva was confirmed in the German Congregational Church in Laurel, Mont. Eva married George Schneider May 8, 1930, and lived in Laurel for a short while, later moving to Billings, where George worked at the sugar beet factory, than onto Cody, Wyo., to work on a ranch. George worked the fields and Eva became a great cook preparing the worker's meals. They returned to Billings again to work the sugar beets. Later moved to Denver, Colo., where George worked at the globe smelter as a welder and Eva retired to being a housewife. Welders were needed at the meir island ship yards in Vallejo, Calif., so, on the road to California. After George's accident and death at the ship yard, Eva and her son came back to Laurel where she worked for her sister Pauline and her husband who owned the Laurel Cafe. Eva later moved to Billings where she worked for St. Vincent Hospital in the children's ward. Eva adored children! Eva wore many hats, she managed a small hotel in Billings. After the hotel sold, Eva moved to Laurel and later onto Idaho, returning to Montana in 1972. Eva had two children, Georgene (deceased), Donald (deceased); six brothers and two sisters, all are (deceased), Alec, Henry, Tony, Adam, Karl, and Herman Hartung, Mollie Frank, and Pauline (Bourne) Barney. Eva's immediate family Donald Schneider (deceased); Delora (Dee), daughter-in-law; two grandsons, Richard and Steven Schneider (wife Marla); one great grandson, Ronald; three great-granddaughters, Heather Simms, Dani Jeffress, and Amanda Schneider; plus great-great-grandsons and granddaughters along with a number of nieces and nephews. Eva will be missed by her family, the staff at St. Johns, who took such good care of her even though they always knew she was the "boss." She will be missed by the children in the daycare center who she visited every day she could. Eva's daughter-in-law and family wish to take this opportunity to thank the entire staff at St. John's for the outstanding care and love given to Eva during her 12 years in assisted living, moving in January 2010 to the more care unit until her passing. Eva enjoyed the many activities, especially bingo (no one best interfere with her bingo days!) Eva was a very strong lady, she was able to accept the tragedies in her life and moved forward to have a very long and beautiful life here on god's great earth, and now she will enjoy the kingdom of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
