Sterkel, Larry Lee , May 24, 1942- Dec. 14, 2010 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, NE 18 Dec 2010 Larry Lee Sterkel, 68, of Gering, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at the First Assembly of God Church in Scottsbluff with Pastors Bob Haverick and Leroy Wyre officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. The Nebraska National Guard will render military honors. Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Memorials in Larry's honor may be made in care of the family. Larry was born May 24, 1942 in Northport, Neb. to Fred William and Anna Marie (Dobrinski) Sterkel. He married Colleen Miller on Jan. 17, 1974. He served in the National Guard, and worked numerous jobs throughout his life, includ-ing farming north of Morrill and working for Farmers Irrigation for 25 years. Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to garage sales. He loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchil-dren. Survivors include his wife, Colleen; sons, Lee (Carie) Sterkel, Eric (Maria) Sterkel; grandchildren, Trey Sterkel, Garrett Sterkel, Erica Sterkel, Bethany Sterkel, Aaliyah Sterkel; sisters, Virginia Flek, Shirly Fiegel, Linda Baker; brothers, Floyd Sterkel, Edward Dobrinski, and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, brothers Fred (Sonny) Sterkel, Roland Sterkel, Donny Sterkel, and sisters Betty Benzel and Dorthy Cleays preceded him in death.
