Greeley Tribune Greeley, Co 01-18*2011 Maria Joslyn Nov. 19, 1906-Jan. 15, 2011 Age: 104 Residence: Greeley Maria Joslyn, 104, of Greeley, formerly of Colorado Springs, passed into Eternal Life on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at the Life Care Center in Greeley. Maria was born in Grimm, Russia, on Nov. 19, 1906. With her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth (Fritzler) Schafer, she arrived in the United States by way of Ellis Island in 1908. She spent her early childhood years in the Windsor/Greeley area. Her family farmed where Greeley West High School is located today. On Nov. 6, 1947, she married Gordon Joslyn, a builder-contractor in the Colorado Springs area. A woman of strong faith and conviction, she was a charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, and taught adult Sunday school classes for over 35 years. Maria is survived by a stepdaughter Barbara (Bud) Shephard of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sisters Lydia Loeffler of LaSalle and Esther Wiedeman; sister-in-law Venice Schafer of Gilcrest; brother Paul Schafer of Greeley and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Carl and Robert Schafer; sister-in-law Margaret Schafer and brothers-in-law Jerome Loeffler and Robert Wiedeman. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 at The First Southern Baptist Church of Colorado Springs followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
