Dave: There is a little info about Kana at: http://cvgs.cu-portland.edu/settlements/daughter_colonies/colony_kana.cfm I have translated the 1857 census of Kana, but there were no Kindsvaters there at that time. ..................Brent............... -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dave Sent: Saturday, January 08, 2011 10:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [GV] Kindsvater's of Kana Hello colleagues; Doing research and preparing a family genealogy for my sons' on Adam Kindsvater and his family from Kana, Russia; who arrived into the United states in 1913 at the port of Galveston, and also stated he had a brother Daniel who remained in Russia. The spelling of the surname has been spelled many different ways over the years, and was changed to Kinsfather on the 1930 Census for Hidalgo, TX. Any pictures you might have of the Kana region would be appreciated as well. Not familiar with the villages of Russia or Russian History at all and pretty new at researching, so any help would be appreciated. Adam Kindsvater is my Grandfather, and I am the Son of Daniel Adam Kinsfather. Will gladly share any information I currently have on his descendants here in the US that I know to be factual. I find that web page confusing. My ancestors first settled in Kaneau which is very close to Katharinenstadt and is in Pleve's first settlers book volume 2. It was established in 1767. Katharinenstadt and Kaneau were way north of the village on the web page below. The web page below lists Kaneau as an alternative spelling for Kana but it is a different village established in 1860.
