Fox, William Bill, Aug. 6, 1932- Jan. 12, 2014 Billings Gazette Billings, Montana 14 Jan 2014 William Bill Fox Today we lost a hero, our dad Bill Fox. He was born Aug. 6, 1932, to Katie (Giest) Fox and Henry Fox in Hesper, Mont. Dad was the eighth of 13 children. His siblings were Henry (Sonny), Lydia, Victor, Irene, George, Bert, Dorothy, Roberta (Tootsie), Ruth, Jeannie, Raymond and Harvey and a grandsonin-law, Robert Forker. All of them preceded Dad in death, except for Harvey. Dad married our mom, Helen Keller on Dec. 29, 1951, together they had four children: Kathy (Chuck) Frost, Gloria (John) Cole, Billy Fox Jr. and Rhonda (Russ) Wildin. He passed away, Jan. 12, 2014, at his daughters house with his children by his side. His incredible journey through life ended after a year and a half of battling cancer. Bill was a humble man, who was easy to meet and talk to. Those who met him never forgot him. He always said, we gotta have a laugh. To his family, he could do anything after remodeling a laundry mat into a house three miles north of Fort Smith on the John Lind place. Dad worked for a short time at Yellowtail Dam during its construction, but his heart was always in farming. He worked for several farmers as a hired hand, until 1964, when a good friend, John Lind gave him the chance to farm on his own. From that day on Dad worked hard at being the best farmer he could be. He was the 1984 top Coors barley grower. Dad was always trying to make farming more productive. He always had great ideas. For example, he was the first to have a six-row beet harvester in the Big Horn Valley. He designed a six-row digger by using a four-row beet digger and added a two-row digger and constructed it with the assistance of Zelkas Machine in Hardin. Dad was also instrumental in the development and construction of the South valley beet dump. He raised sugar beets for Holly Sugar, Great Western and Western Sugar Companies. Bill is survived by one brother; his four children; two brothers-in-law, Ben Keller and Rueben Weibert, three sisters-in-law, Carole Fox, Joan Keller and Regina McBeth; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were very dear to him. A special thanks to two of his granddaughters Jenny Macks and Emily Martin for the extra care they provided their grandfather in his last days. Dad always had a special place in his heart for his nephew David Fox, who looked up to our dad as a second father. Bills family would also like to express their gratitude to Frontier Cancer Center, Dr. Martin Lucas and RiverStone Hospice. Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangement. Should friends desire; memorial contributions may be made to Hardin St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Big Horn County Historical Museum.

Hi Angela, Thanks for the Baumgartner info. Here is the Baumgartner entry for the colony of Anton: Johannes Baumgartner, 38, Lutheran, farmer from Kurpfalz, Oberamt Heidelberg Wife: Anna Catharina, 32 Children: Johann Lenard 7, Anna Maria 13, Anna Margareta 9, Maria Johanna 4, Eva Catharina 3. The family arrived in the colony of Anton 7.9.1764 Hope this info helps. Best Wishes, Tim Kloberdanz ________________________________________ From: ger-volga-bounces@rootsweb.com <ger-volga-bounces@rootsweb.com> on behalf of Angela Gartner <angela.gartner@telus.net> Sent: Thursday, January 9, 2014 11:38 PM To: GER-VOLGA@rootsweb.com; GER-RUS-ARG-request@rootsweb.com Subject: [GV] Baumgartner/Baumgardt Volmer, Pfeifer, and Husaren Hi All, I was hoping that someone might be able to help shed new light on an old problem. I have been working on the Baumgartner family that lived in Volmer. Originally I was thinking that the Baumgartner families found in Volmer, Pfeifer and Husaren were all related. I still think they might be, but the evidence that I have is not adding up. Christoph Baumgartner is listed in the Kulburg list arriving to Oranienbaum on May 4, 1766. He is a catholic farmer from Danzig, no age given. Listed with him is his wife; Anna Maria (no surname or age), a daughter; Dorothea age 17, and a son; Solomon age 8. Christoph Baumgartner is listed in the Original Settlers List for Husaren on Feb 17, 1767. It lists him as 51 years old and a catholic farmer from Marienburg, Poland. Listed with him is his wife Anna Maria (47), and son Solomon (9). Soloman is found in the 1798 & 1834 Husaren Census documents as Samuel. There is no doubt that this is the same family. Popular belief currently is that the Baumgartner families found in Pfeifer and Volmer are from the above family. I am not sure if this is true. In the Volmer 1798 Census #20 Christoph Baumgartner (38) is found married to Maria Wagner (36). He is listed as being from Pfeifer and she is from Kamenka. I confirmed with the 1775 Kamenka Census that her information is correct. They have 8 children with the first one being born in 1780. If Christoph was a son of the above Christioph why is he not listed in the Kulburg List or the OSL for Husaren? If he was born after the OSL was recorded he would have been 14 years old at the time of his first child's birth. That can't be right. The same goes for the Heinrich Baumgartner that is found in the 1798 Pfeifer Census. Since Christopher from Volmer is listed as being from Pfeifer I assume that at least these two are related. Probably brothers. Heinrich Baumgartner is the name found in the 1798 Pfeifer Census, but no age is listed for him. It is his wife that is listed. She is found in the household of Peter Sommer #54. Her children are listed as step children to her new husband, Peter Sommer and Heinrich Baumgartner is listed as their father. Again, given the birth year of their first child; Heinrich would have had to have been born before any Original Settlers List. If he was born after 1767 he too would be about 14 years old at the time of his 1st child's birth. So this got me thinking that maybe Christoph from Volmer (originally from Pfeifer) and Heinrich from Pfeifer were brothers and maybe they could have been nephews of the original Christoph from Husaren. I scoured the Kulberg List and the OSL for Husaren, Pfeifer, Volmer and Kamenka for any sign of two brothers named Christoph and Heinrich as being someone's stepsons or even orphans. I came up with nothing. So I also have considered that maybe Christoph from Volmer (originally from Pfeifer) and Heinrich who died in Pfeifer are from the Baumgartner's that originally settled in Anton. Is there anyone who can check the Original Settlers list for Anton? This way I can at least count this out or even make a confirmation. I don't know what else to do, or where else to look. Any ideas???? In Loving Memory Carl D. Frank January 5, 1914 – December 27, 2013 Walla Walla native and former long-time resident Carl D. Frank passed away in Santa Barbara, California, on December 27, 2013, following a sudden illness, just nine days short of his 100th birthday. He was born on January 5, 1914, in Walla Walla to John David and Elizabeth Frank, recent German immigrants from the Volga region of Russia, and he was the first of his family to be born in the United States. Carl and Katherine “Kaye” Zier were married on August 18, 1935, in Walla Walla, where they raised three children on a small farm on the outskirts of town. The third of nine children and the eldest son, Carl quit school at age 14, shortly after his graduation from Lincoln School, to manage the family’s grocery business due to the illness of his father. He later owned and operated a number of groceries, bakeries and meat markets in Walla Walla, Spokane and northern Idaho, and was elected President of the Associated Grocers of Washington State in 1956. Following a brief foray into the food distribution business in the mid-1960s, Carl and Kaye moved to Santa Barbara in 1967, where Carl joined his youngest brother Harold Frank at Applied Magnetics Corporation in Goleta, California, where he worked until his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 78 years, Katherine Frank of Santa Barbara. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul D. Frank and MaryAnn Frank; son-in-law, Neno J. Aiello; grandchildren: Suzanne E. Baker, Diane M. Karr, David E. Frank, Jon E. Frank, Robert D. Frank and Kathryn M. Frank; great-grandchildren Adam D. Ganser, Mollie R. Ganser, Ethan M. Baker and Elisabeth K. Frank; brothers David D. Frank, John W. Frank and Solomon Frank; sister Freda Wilhelm and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carlene K. Aiello; his son Carl D. Frank, Jr.; grandson, John L. Frank; greatgranddaughter, Emily J. Baker; sisters: Elizabeth Dalton, Mollie Shiffman and Katherine Benzel; and brother, Harold R. Frank. To his beloved family, he was the “patriarch” who kept all of them in his thoughts and prayers. Those who knew him will miss his unique sense of humor and the fascinating stories he told of the adventures (and many misadventures) of his youth in Walla Walla. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Santa Barbara. A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday morning, January 11, 2014, at the Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 S. 2nd Avenue, Walla Walla, followed by a reception at the First Congregational Church of Walla Walla. Family and friends may write memories and sign the online guestbook at www.mountainview-colonialdewitt.com
Thanks to all for the info regarding the Baumgartner's from Anton. Unfortunately this only proves that the Baumgartner's I am looking for are not from Anton. Well, at least I know for sure. They must be stepsons to someone. I guess the only way to figure it out is by finding church records. Thanks, Angela angela.gartner@telus.net www.volmervillage.com

Blumanthal, Reinhold Ron Herman, July 7, 1923- Dec. 28, 2013 Scottsbluff Star Herald Scottsbluff, Nebraska 9 Jan 2014 BRIDGEPORT Reinhold (Ron) Herman Blumanthal, 90, passed away at Skyview Nursing Home in Bridgeport on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, where he was a resident since January 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born in Sutton, Neb. on July 7, 1923, to Ernest Sarah (Trautmann) Blumanthal. He was the fifth of seven children. He spent his early childhood growing up during the Great Depression. He always said the grapes of wrath was a good example of how they lived and tried to survive at that time. They built a shack on the back of an old Model T and traveled from Nebraska up through South Dakota and ending up in Scottsbluff, where his father finally found some work in the sugar beet and potato fields, working for various farmers. After his father passed away in 1938, Ron quit school to help support his mother and siblings with little more than a 6th grade education. They then moved to Geneva, Neb. to be closer to family. One of his first jobs there was setting up bowling pins for 10 cents a day. He also did some work for the government WPA program. Ron was confirmed on June 8, 1941 in the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Geneva. In March of 1943 he was inducted into the United States Army where he served with the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division in the 3rd Army. Ron served as a machine gunner on a 3 or 4 man squad and after losing about a dozen men on his squad he said he thanked God for finally being transferred to a rifle company. He saw his first action in North Africa, then the invasion of Italy at Salerno, Monte Cassino and Volturno River where he was wounded. Ron was no longer able to perform combat duty and was shipped back to the states where he served as a military policeman in Colorado till the war was over. He was awarded the American Service Medal, African Middle Eastern Service Medal, WWII victory medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star and Purple Heart and four campaign or battle stars. After the war he moved to Alliance in 1946, where his brother Vic was living, and offered him work on a farm. He then hired out on the CB&Q Railroad as a car inspector, where Ron spent the next 38 years retiring from the Burlington Northern in 1983. He met his first wife Helen Stanis and were married in 1949, and to this union, one son was born, John Steven Blumanthal. They divorced and then he met his true love, Lillian Frances Morrish (Fran). They were married on Dec. 5, 1953 and to this union their seven children were born. They bought their first home at 518 West 2nd street in 1960 and raised their seven children in this small 2 bedroom house where there was never a dull moment. Ron loved bowling and was on many leagues and won many trophies over the years, and then an injury stopped his bowling. He loved woodworking, making and selling his windmills, bird houses, and other wooden lawn ornaments, which he nailed up everywhere around the yard, on fences, building etc. Ron loved to camp and fish and to travel up to the Black Hills, mainly to Keystone where he and Fran would watch the tourists and meet new friends. Hi Everyone: I am looking for the geographical coordinates for the villages of Liebenthal and Herzog. I know that there are several Liebenthals. Some are located in the area around Odessa. The Liebenthal I'm looking for is quite a bit north of Odessa. I understand that it is possible that neither of these places continue to exist. Google Earth doesn't find them. Nevertheless, if ANYONE can tell me where I can find their geographical coordinated, I would be VERY grateful. My father's family was from Herzog and left there around 1905. My mother's family was from Liebenthal and left there around 1875. Sincerely, Ed Bitter, Houston
