She moved to Bayard in 1951 and graduated from Bayard Schools. She married the love of her life, Vernon LeRoy Hubbard, on June 30, 1957 in Bayard and to this union four children were born. Later, Gladys attended beauty school before working as a lab tech for several years for Dr. Carl Frank. Gladys and Vern started an in-home daycare in 1986, eventually caring for over 50 children including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many of the children she watched still refer to her as grandma to this day. First and foremost, Gladys loved to spend time with her family, especially at family traditions including the annual Christmas Eve celebration. She attended her childrens and grandchildrens sports events, dance recitals, music performances, 4-H events, birthdays, family holidays, and get-togethers. Gladys loved her family very much. She never minced words and said exactly what she thought and what was on her heart. Her sense of humor could brighten the day and she made anyone who entered her home part of her family. Gladys preferred to give rather than to receive. She always put others needs first and made herself available no matter the day or hour. Survivors include her children, Vicki (Kurt) Weber of Gering, Doug (Lanna) Hubbard of Mitchell, Nancy (Wayne) Dillman of Scottsbluff, and Jennifer (Ron) Eskam of Gering; sister, Virginia (Dennis) Larson; brother, Louie Sonny (Betty) Sauer; grandchildren, Jessica (Wayne), Matthew, Ashley, Rebecca, Kenna (Chris), Bethany (Hamidou), Andrea (Brad), Nicholas, Kelsey (AJ), Cassandra, Keelyn, Kaden; and great-grandchildren, Dru, Devon, Elli, Jadon, Jonah, Lilly, Aubree, Kinley, Quinten, Axton, Addison, Konnar, Ryder; in-laws, Fred Quindt, Herschel & Betty Hubbard, Larry & Mary Lee Hubbard, Bessie Hubbard, JoAnn Keys, Don & Shirley Collamore; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gladys is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Here is a small portion of a 1941 map by Geo. Leibbrandt covering the Kuban Province, North Caucasus. I wish I had access to the complete map. These villages have importance to some Volga German researchers because we know they were in part settled by colonists from the Volga German colonies. The purple font & symbols on the map denote German settlements, population, etc. Note: Not all khutors/collective farms may be shown. For example there was a Khutor Neyelenskiy adjacent to Neuheim (Russian: Novo Selovka) which doesn't appear on this particular map although on a modern map it shows. It was probably so close to Neuheim it didn't warrant its own identity. http://s004.radikal.ru/i208/1005/98/c0f45e397f66.jpg Internet Source: http://forum.wolgadeutsche.net/viewtopic.php?f=270&t=561 Tim Weeder VC for Paulskoye
Here is link to a 1941 Volga German Republic map "Die Deutschen Siedlungen in Der Sowjetunion" by Geo. Leibbrandt. What is most interesting to me are all the smaller German settlements (i.e. those other than mother colonies and daughter colonies). These German settlements would have been former khutors, hamlets and by this time collective farms. http://chort.square7.ch/Buch/LeibWg.pdf Original website source: http://chortiza.heimat.eu/Karten.htm Use Ulrich Mertens' German Russian Handbook (2010) and you can find many of these same settlements listed. For example, in the upper right hand corner of the map I see two settlements not far from each other labeled "Tra"nkteich". In Mertens I find the most northerly one was associated with Bettinger [Tra"nkteich-zu-Bettinger] while the other was called "Tra"nkteich-zu-Scho"chen". Unfortunately many of these mapped settlements also listed by Mertens, offer little or no additional information---but at least these resources give the researcher something with which to work. Joey was born and raised in Greeley, where he lived most of his life. He also spent five months in Clarksville, Tenn., at the beginning of this year. Everywhere Joey worked and played he made lasting friendships. Joey will be remembered as a loving, caring, compassionate man who would share anything he had. He was born May 7, 1985, in Greeley to Richard D. and Kristi L. (Richardson) Helzer. Joey graduated from Greeley Central High School, where he played football and wrestled. He also played the stand-up bass in orchestra. He went on to attend Aims Community College. He was an impromptu entertainer always making others smile and feel special. Joey had a great sense of humor and gave the best hugs you could get. Some of his outfits were quite memorable and he loved occasions that gave him an excuse to dress-up. Joey had patience and determination, which resulted in successfully training several family dogs to perform unique and silly tricks including his stubborn, beloved dog Reggie, who already misses him. Joey could build and fix almost anything because he would take the time to read and examine directions, which isnt a Helzer family trait. He had a fascination with gadgets, gizmos and tape. Joey loved movies and enjoyed sharing his personal film reviews with others. He got excited over every genre, not limiting himself to any one theme. He enjoyed a good book and playing video games with friends. Music was a passion. He loved his family, extended family and was blessed with many treasured cousins and friends of all ages.
