In the mid 1930s the family moved to Curtis, Neb., and the following year to Bolivar, Missouri where Jean graduated from high school in 1941. That fall she started classes at Kearney College. She commenced training as a nurse at the Nebraska School of Nursing, Omaha in February 1943. She married Edwin John Loeffel of Lincoln on March 10, 1945. On the completion of Dr. Loeffel’s medical training, the family settled in Mitchell, Neb. In 1970, Jean returned to nursing, earning an RN from the School of Nursing at West Nebraska School of Nursing in 1971, and her BSN from the University of Nebraska in 1975. Birthdays and special holidays were all honored with special gifts of baked treats and homemade candies. Her artisanal sweet rolls will be remembered by all fortunate enough to have tasted them. She loved being outdoors and taking hikes and long walks. In her later years, her company was a succession of three, very lucky, poodles. 1. [GV] Some Information on Pastor/Dean Alexander Scheiermann
    2. Horst Gutsche via
    3. Pastor Richman writes: We are grateful that Pastor Scheiermann is willing to come here to share his work in "laying....that choice stone, the precious cornerstone" (1 Peter 2:6b) upon which his and our churches are built - Jesus Christ. Saratov, Russia on the great Volga River was the center of a large immigration of Germans, most of whom were farmers who were needed to establish an agricultural base for Russia. As the political climate of Russia became more threatening, tens of thousands of those people we call German-Russians or Germans from Russia, came to the United States. Though many settled in the Midwest, they are spread over other parts of the country. Welcome Pastor Scheiermann! Pastor Alexander Scheiermann, Saratov, Russia: A Brief History My forefathers came to Russia from Hesse, Germany to Saratov (Yagodnaya Polyana) in 1763. My parents were deported to the Omsk, Siberia district in 1941. I was born there in 1967 and grew up during the Soviet era. It was a very difficult time. We children were strongly pressured to join the Communist party. I was the only one from a class of 44 who did not join. I didn't own a Bible until I was 21. Our parents possessed a German Bible but we children understood very little of it. I tried often to gain possession of a Russian Bible, but never succeeded. The Communists destroyed both church buildings and Bibles, but we still had one alternative: Christian radio programs from Western Europe and North America. The Communists jammed these broadcasts; nevertheless, I was often able to hear God's Word in the evenings. These radio broadcasts were my congregation. I knew that Christ was my salvation and justification. After I met Christ as Savior, Lord, and Master when I was 16, I always had a desire to learn more of His Word. I was drafted into the Russian army when I was 18. Living with other soldiers helped me understand how depressed and broken many young men were. Because I was a German-Russian, they didn't trust me with a weapon. The one time I was allowed to fire a weapon, they had two soldiers with rifles pointed at me "in case I would try something foolish." The desire to learn God's Word was finally fulfilled when my family immigrated to West Germany in 1988. Irene, who also grew up in Omsk, Russia and I were married in Germany. Two years later, I was able to study theology in Chrischona, Switzerland. In 1995, God called us to return to Russia as missionaries. My wife and I have three children: Rachel (17), who lives with Irene's parents and is studying in Germany, Andreas (14), and Daniel Josef (6). Our hearts' desire is to bear witness to Jesus Christ to the people of Russia. My goal is to see my people come to a living faith in Jesus Christ and to help build His church there. Thank you and God bless you, Pastor Alexander Scheiermann Pastor Alexander Scheiermann and family moved to Saratov, Russia in 1997. Since his arrival, the church has grown from almost nothing to an attendance of about 60 people. The building project is nearing completion. Pastor Alexander Scheiermann is also District Supervisor (Dean) over six different congregations in that region. The East European Missions Network (EEMN) is grateful to be able to partner with Pastor Alexander and to provide the opportunity for you to meet him and hear his story. Your contribution will go to support his ministry as well as the construction of the new sanctuary and church center in Saratov. Your contributions are tax deductible and can be made out to your local congregation or "Missions Committee" at First Lutheran Church (18354 Eighth Avenue NW, Shoreline, WA 98177). Irma does not have any immediate family members who immigrated to the US, but she is interested in sharing information, family tree, photos, etc with her "cousins" here. All the MERKEL and GRUNE families I am aware of began their American life in Bellwood and Maywood before branching out to other cities and states. Irma grew up in Kupino (roughly between Novo Sibirsk and Omsk) where her parents and other villagers were exiled in 1941. You can write her in English, German or Russian. 2. Don Soeken via
    3. HI: We all need to write to his employer at the University and complainand also to his US liason Dick Kraus. Here is the information from a Google search. Research by Dr. Igor Pleve and His Associates Person doing research: Dr. Igor Pleve, wife, daughter, email:pleve@overta.ru Email to Dr. Pleve may take considerable time for an answer. Dr. Pleve is Minister of Education in Saratov, Russia. Payment: Dick Kraus, email:dickkraus1@yahoo.com Dr. Pleve's financial liason in the United States. Individual Research: Pleve charges about $8.00 per name to look and retrieve the information, even if there is nothing found. Say you asked him for Jacob Strackbein (son of Conrad and Maria Elisabeth), was born about 1834 or 1835. He will look at 1834 and 1835, $8.00 for 1834 and if nothing there he will look at 1835, and charge you $8.00 for that as well, so the total for this birth would be $16.00 roughly. In order to get birth & marriages dates, he needs to know the exact year or at least something to go on. If you tell him about 1837 or 1838 he will just look at those two dates. You may tell him 1850-1860 and he would do those years, but again $8.00 a year, whether or not someone is listed. Family Charts: Two types of charts are available, an ancestry chart and a full surname chart. For an ancestry chart, you tell Dr. Pleve the starting person, and he will find all the ancestors, and family of the ancestors, back to the first settler. Cost is from $400 to $500, depending on the size of the family. Delivery time is one year or more, depending on work load, and difficulty finding records. For a surname chart, you specify the surname and the village, and the chart will give you the ancestors and their families back to the first settler that came to Russia. The price is $500 to $1000, depending on how many people are in the family. Note that the type of research specified here will also be done at the other two archives. He was 65 years old. A '49 blizzard baby, Alvin L. was born January 18 in Cheyenne, Wyo. to J. Arling and Edvina Wiederspahn. He graduated from Cheyenne Central High School, from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in zoology and from the University of Denver College of Law. Alvin was an avid reader whose curiosity about the world drove him to pursue myriad interests. He served on the board of advisors to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and as the first Chairman of the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority. Alvin believed in the potential of all young people, leading him to volunteer as Laramie County's Juvenile Drug Court judge and with Youth Alternatives.
