    1. [GER-VOLGA] Archvies research costs
    2. Vera Beljakova
    3. This was the cost structure for 2005 Saratov/Engels Archives, but obviously by 2007 costs would have escalated. Take an example of the village Grimm (multiply by as many villages as you want checked). Take a rough estimate of 30 roubles to the US $: 1. Census (Revision) for the 2 years 1850 & 1857 2. Family register of the evangelic-lutherans 3. Metric (church) books for birth registers 1902 > 1918. Cost: Checking census report 448 roubles per each census (there are 2 census) Checking Family Lists - 448 roubles Checking metric books (eg birth register) - 299 roubles PER EACH YEAR. Fees are payable in ADVANCE whether information is found or not - time has been spend looking for it at your request.. Work starts AFTER the fees have been received. The research will take about 3 months from receipt of fees. therefore - as an example - FOR CHECKING EACH FAMILY NAME: checking 2 census 1850 & 1857 - ca. 900 roubles = $ 30 checking 1 family list - ca. 450 roubles = $ 15 checking EACH YEAR in the birth register is ca. 300 roubles = $ 10 PER YEARS. (they have 16 years of births in Grimm). Just an example of fee structure for 2005 and how it worked. Engels is definitely not taking any orders or any money for the last ca 18 months ever since the announcement that work has stopped until the new Archive depository is functioning. An announcement will be made as soon as the Archve is open for business again. Regards, Vera Beljakova-Miller

    2. Don Loose
    3. Sue, First, let me say that I have NO connection to the surnames that you mentioned. I did check my "1798 Census of the German Colonies along the Volga" reference for the surname JARGER (and spelling variations). I do not want to mix you up, but I did not find your primary spelling; I did find several villages having a JAGER at that time. I next checked for the HETZEL name, and found nothing close. In the process, I found four (4) HERGER names listed for the village of DIETEL. Good Luck on your search. I am not sure how much the above might help (or hinder), but one never knows when something might show up that helps. Have you checked the AHSGR.org website for the availability of a later census of Dietal? Don Loose Warren, Mich. 1. [GER-VOLGA] To Jon RE Saratov births
    2. Jennifer L David
    3. >>Greetings, I am researching my family tree and have discovered that some people were born in the town of Saratov in Russia. I was wondering what I need to do, to get in contact with the archive department of Saratov to get copies of birth, marriage and death certificates. Regards Jon.<< Jon . I'm wondering if your people may have actually been born in one of the Volga villages in the Saratov *province* rather than in the city of Saratov itself? I have found that U.S. census records often state "Saratov" as a birthplace, when in fact, a village within Saratov province was the actual birth location and the residence of the child's parents and extended family. (Probably "Saratov" was deemed to be a more recognizable locale term for census purposes versus a village name.) Did you discover the "Saratov" birth information via US census? Some other document? Can you tell us the family surname, please? Sometimes one is able to tie a surname to a particular village, or at least narrow the field among the Volga villages. There exist compiled lists of surnames found within particular villages. For instance, my husband's DAVID ancestors all lived in the village of Dietel in the province of Sarotov, and the DAVID surname appears among a list of many other surnames of the families who lived in Dietel. I wonder if you are aware of AHSGR (American Historical Society of the Germans from Russia) and its record archives in Lincoln, Nebraska? Hoping this village idea may be of some help to you. Best regards, Jennifer David Cincinnati

If you give the surname of the person, the year of arrival, someone may possibly help you. 2. Vera Beljakova
    3. Replying to Jon, Careful now. Some people were born in Saratov city and others in Saratov provinces (villages thereof). Best scenario is that you know her precise date of birth and it is indeed the city of Saratov...that is straightforward. Worst scenario is that you are not sure of her date, which means more research time needed, therefore the price will rise with every hour searched. Lost cause. If she was a born in a Saratov (province) village, you don't know which one....there are 100s, and no on in his right mind would commission an archive to search from 100s of church books. Would take years and cost a small fortune. One quick option for you is to request the Russian Embassy in your country to obtain these certificates for you - they obviously also charge for this service. Best of luck. Vera Greetings, I am researching my family tree and have discovered that some people were born in the town of Saratov in Russia. I was wondering what I need to do, to get in contact with the archive department of Saratov to get copies of birth, marriage and death certificates.
