    3. Hallo List:   I received a query asking if I had info on a Katharina Elisabeth Huwa, born 1778 (supposedly in Doenhof), married to Johann Georg Batz (apparently in Grimm). Only one Huwa family settled in Doenhof and it lists has only one daughter (Elisabeth Margaretha, born 1771). Elis. Marg. Huwa is listed as having married in Beideck in 1790. There is no other mention of any Huwa female.   Can someone do a look-up for me on the 1798 Grimm Census and see if there is any mention of where Katharina Elis. (Huwa) Batz came from?   Thanks,   Hugh Lichtenwald, from the farm in Monetta, SC VC, Wiesenmueller

    3. Susanne Heinitz-Dodge: Thank you for the very newsy letter. The Nicolaus Heinz (b1713) line that went to Straub was from Schierstein, Nassau. Your line, Gottlieb Heinze (b.1720), from what I found, came from Dresden Sachsen and went to Dobrinka, OSL family #14. The other line I found in Straub, first went to Kutter (OSL 1767) and then moved to Straub in 1788. This was Friedrich Heinz (b. 1745) in Württemberg. So far, I couldn't connect any of the three families. Maybe someone else on GER-VOLGA has had better luck. Jerry Goertzen

    2. William Pickelhaupt
    3. A newsletter about Volga-Germans of and from eastern Michigan is planned to debut in early 2011. The plan is to focus on VGs that settled or passed through Sanilac and St. Clair counties particularly, but will also include Huron, Saginaw, Bay and Genessee counties. To be published on a quarterly basis (again, that is the plan), it include stories of those of us who descended from VGs, stories about them, genealogical materials, databases (e.g. naturalization information and church records) and tips on how to go about conducting a genealogical search. Many of the home villages were in the Katharinenstadt area.   It is hoped that previously unpublished data will be available, particularly certain church records, and that permission will be given to publish that information. Genealogical searches can also be commissioned.   Those who are interested, please contact me. Distribution will not be made to those who do not express an interest.   Thanks.   Bill Pickelhaupt

    3. I checked an 1856 Gazetter of the World, and there is no Bloomfeld(t) in Russia or anywhere else in the world listed. Its a very complete work: volume 1 runs to 987 pages. 3. There are three Blumenfeld villages, all daughter colonies, one each in the following three Samara Province Districts in the Volga: Pallasowka, Marienttal and Fedorowka. There are also the following villages: Blumenfeld (Kherson area in the Black Sea Region), three Blumenfeld villages in the Jekaterinoslav region, a Blumenfeld village in the Don District, five Blumenfeld villages in the North Kaukasus region, and one Blumenfeld village of the South Kaukasus region. Unless a ship immigration record shows where these people came from, your going to have a very difficult time figuring out where they came from.
