GA Researchers: During a recent trip to the Georgia Dept. of Archives and History, I found a description of the boundaries of the Militia Districts of Columbia Co. in 1931(_Georgia's_Official_Register_compiled by Ruth Blair in 1931, pp. 580-581). Since Columbia Co. is a headright county, I was surprised to find references to districts and land lots in this description. With the assistance of an archivist, I was able to determine that the districts referred to seemed to be the same as the school districts on a 1915 map of Columbia Co. which is also held by the GA Archives. However, I still don't understand the references to numbered land lots. I have included below the description of the boundaries of GMD 129 (Appling) as an example. I hope that someone will be able to explain how I can identify the land lot referred to. ********************************** 129 APPLING Bounded on north by Green Brier creek and land lot 16; east by land lot 16 and Little Kiokee creek and Louisville public road; south by Old Wrightsboro public road and McDuffie county line and Green Brier creek. *********************************** Thanks for any assistance, Leo Leonard
