I don't know the name of his church either. What was *your* family's denomination? Before World War II (and even later), most Southern extended families belonged to the same denomination, especially if they were all from the same general area. I have two exceptions in my own extended family: my paternal grandparents, one of whom was from South Carolina and the other of whom was from the mountains of western North Carolina, belonged to different denominations. (He was a Methodist and she was a Baptist: after they married, due to a specific incident in South Carolina, she became a Methodist.) The other incident involved my mother's maternal grandmother: when my mother's maternal grandmother's family moved from West Virginia to eastern North Carolina shortly after 1900, they couldn't find a Lutheran church, so all became Methodists. >Is there a directory where I can find a list of clergy (live or dead) in a >given county and/or state? I don't know of any such thing for any time period. The best you could do would be to check microfilm of the local newspaper for that time period, and look for any mentions of these people.
