Where would I find the marriage records of a couple who married in Paulding County, GA in 1878? The couple are James M. HAYNES and Amanda BELL. They were probably married in Paulding, but Carroll, Bartow (Cass), and Polk counties are also possibilities. I would also like to find records and the burial place of Arminda BELL, mother of Amanda BELL HAYNES, who probably died in Polk County in 1904. Her husband, David T. BELL was killed in the Battle of Atlanta and she received a widow's pension. For several years she received it in Paulding County, but in 1903 and 1904 she received it in Polk. The records end at that point, so I assume she died in 1904. She also had a son named G.W. BELL, who may have lived in the Atlanta area. I am going to be in north GA next week and would like to look for the marriage certificate of James M. and Amanda and the final resting place of Arminda if someone could please give me some direction! Please forgive multiple posting. Thanks, Beth Waits
Beth: Since you are not sure of the county where the marriage occurred, I would recommend the Georgia Archives in Morrow, Georgia. There you could access the marriage records for several counties in a relatively short period of time. You might want to get the 1870 census record for the bride's family and 1880 census record for the married couple first to help pinpoint where they might be living in 1878.
