    3. Most times I see an X as a guy's middle initial, I figure that it's probably Xavier. I have a hard time thinking that an X from someone making their mark would get into a directory... but anything is possible, always. Personally, I would suspect something more on the order of Xenia. <G> RW Gerald Gieger wrote: > Frequently, folks could not write their name, and transcribers did not > realize that the "X" was their mark, unless the scrivner wrote "His > (or Her) Mark" (as the case may be) above and below the "X" > >> From: Ethylsbrat@aol.com >> Reply-To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com >> To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com >> Subject: [GEORGIA] Initial >> Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 07:49:02 EDT >> >> I found my grandmothers name in an Atlanta City directory and her middle >> initial was listed as "X." >> Does anyone know weather this is for a middle name or because she had no >> middle name? >> And if it is a middle name what woman's names begin with "X"? >> Thanks, >> Darlene >
