John L. Dowdy born in 1804 in Screven Co., GA, the son of Richard Dowdy and Penelope Lane ( No court or legal records have been found to document John Dowdy's middle name. There is much speculation regarding this, but it is strictly speculation without supporting evidence. My personal opinion is that the L. stood for his mother's maiden name of Lane, as it was a common practice, but like others, I have no document that uses his middle name. Other researchers tell us his middle name is Lottaway. Would someone share documentation for this if it is out there? Well, I believe that is a little before WW I. I found 26 submitters of information on John L. Dowdy or John Lottoway Dowdy, not all had name and e-mail address though. 1. Robert Jeffries <[email protected]> 2. Sandra Selph-Hunter, Spiritwalker <[email protected]> 3. No name given <[email protected]> 4. Don Stephens <[email protected]> 5. Mary Beth Marchant <MBMJLM22AAOL.COM> 6. Linda Nelson <[email protected]> 7. John Johnson <[email protected]> 8. No given <[email protected]> 9. Wayne Augustus Harrell <[email protected]> I hope that you will be able to use at least a couple of these names. Best wishes to you in your endeavors. Hazel At 04:37 PM 9/30/2006, you wrote: >John L.
