From what I understand, New Echota was where the Trail of Tears started and a lot of people listed as being in the Cherokee Wars only helped with the Trail of Tears. I've been to the museum and it is very interesting. I have a little info on my ancestor that pertains to the subject: "James Crawford Haire, Private, served in Caldwell's Co. of the 1st Tennessee. Mounted. Inf in the Cherokee War".(Source: Index of Volunteer Soldiers in Indian Wars and Disturbances,1815-1858) He enlisted 6/30/1836 and was discharged 7/31/1836 according to his widow's application for pension. She was denied because he was only involved for 2 weeks.
