    3. I have researched several of these men for my book on DeKalb County history. A few were prominent in the early years of the county. William Ezzard was one of the original settlers of DeKalb and served as DeKalb Superior Court judge (1840-44). He later moved to Atlanta and became mayor there. I don't know any first names from the rank-and-file, but I do know Henry B. Latimer and Alexander A. Heard. In addition to Ezzard's "Independent Guards," DeKalb had three other militia units during the Indian wars: Ezekiel Calhoun's "Light Infantry," Charles Parr's cavalry unit and another infantry unit led by Charles Latimer (father of the first female U. S. Senator, Rebecca Latimer Felton). If anyone wishes to know more about an individual, I will be happy to respond to private emails. I cannot post information, because the book is still being sold and is covered by copyright restrictions.
