I have been told that my grandfather, John Allen McWhorter, attended the State Normal School in Athens. The year probably would have been about 1900-1905. He was teaching school in Carroll County when he met my grandmother (she was a student) -- and married her. Would anyone know where there might be records of students in the Normal school in the earlier years? Thomas Newton McWhorter (my grandfather's uncle) also attended school there. They both taught in Carroll, then my grandfather taught in Randolph County, GA, then they joined up again and taught school in Turin, Coweta County. Thomas Newton McWhorter ended up teaching at Campbell High in Campbell County. My grandfather gave it up and went to work for the railway as a mail clerk. Mom said he couldn't feed his family on a teacher's salary. But I would love to find a record of some kind where he attended school in Athens. Thanks, Judy in Newnan, GA
