    1. [GEORGIA] Poindexter P. CARTER, Greene Co., 1852-1921
    2. Is there someone out there who might know something about the above gentleman. I started out helping a friend find out about an old house in Asheville, NC and now it is a search for this mans story. Here is what I know -- he was born in VA but his father moved the family to GA. Poindexter married someone from GA -- perhaps named Corrina. He had at least three daughters -- Mary E. (Gena) b. abt. 1888, Caroline L. (Carrie) b. abt. 1890, and Virginia L. b. avt. 1894. This family moved to Asheville abt.1917 or 1918. I think Corrina was with them at the time but by the 1920 census she is missing. Poindexter Page Carter was an artist and painted historical portaits -- Robert E. Lee for example. Several of his works are in SC buildings among other places. He died in Asheville May 6, 1921 and I have his obit. He was taken back to Greensboro, GA to be buried. His daughters continued to live in Asheville and were not married. Virgina died in 1933 and she was also taken back to Greensboro to be buried. Soon after that the other two girls disappear from Asheville. It is likely that he left no direct descendants. Supposedly Poindexter's father was James Monroe Carter. His obit says "Noted Artist Dies at Asheville Home" yet I can't find out much about him or his family. Can anyone help? Sandy
